Treeness Consult was founded in December 2002 and is specialised in providing policy advice in the area of climate change, forestry and land use, and validation, verification and certification services; project development (CDM, VCS, CCBA, etc.) . Treeness Consult is a small firm with a limited amount of associates, guaranteeing minimal overheads, a personal and flexible approach, resulting in client-oriented, tailor-made deliverables.
Policy and Technical Advice: including assistance to governments, intergovernmental agencies, ministries, foundations, private sector entities and project developers. Resulting reports that are in the public domain can be found elsewhere on this site. Treeness Consult also assisted the Technical Support Unit of Working Group III of the IPCC with its contribution to the 4th Assessment Report: a report for which the IPCC was rewarded the Nobel Peace Prize, together with Al Gore, in 2007. One of the latest publication of Treeness Consult is a report for the UNFCCC on Investment Flows and Finance Schemes in the Forestry Sector, with particular reference to developing countries’ needs.
Validation and Verification: already in early 1998, the 1st CDM-type projects emerged in Latin America. To demonstrate their quality and commitment they sought independent 3rd party verification of their activities. The founding director of Treeness Consult, together with other parties, jumped to the occasion and developed a carbon offset verification service for one of the largest international testing and inspection companies: the 1st company worldwide to provide verification services on that voluntary market, and still operating today as a CDM accredited company for the forestry scope!
Project Development (CDM, VCS, CCBA, etc.) and Sustainable Forest Management Certification: Treeness Consult also offers its services in this field. The founding director, a forest management expert, has conducted dozens of project evaluations worldwide since 1994, to assess environmental, social and economic aspects of forest management projects, against the FSC standard. In addition, such assessments have been combined with validations and verification exercises of climate change mitigation forestry projects since 1998 on all continents of the world.
